Last time we shared with you brain-research findings that indicated that whatever you think about most will be put on your “Important List” and any time you ‘see’ something related to anything on this list, EVEN WHEN YOU ARE NOT CONSCIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT THAT SUBJECT, your Reticular Activating System automatically sends that information to your top level, conscious cortex neurons!

How do you get things onto your “Important List”? As we mentioned last issue, the research shows, whatever you think about most, your dominant thoughts, get the most attention from your conscious neurons, with the most automatic messages being sent to the ‘top floor’!

 Can you deliberately influence your RAS to predetermine what images and impulses go on your Goal -Oriented, Transcendent-Success, “Important List”? YES! YES! YES!

The research evidence shows that you can deliberately think AND TALK about certain things and your nonconscious neurons will form, over time, many new synaptic connections that will trigger a conscious awareness of anything that is related to your Success Goals Important List! One way to do this is via your:

SCIENCE FOR SUCCESS TECHNIQUE #4 : INNERSTATES.

For many years, psychologists, scientists and authors have written about and recommended what used to be called auto-suggestion, affirmations, self-talk, or incantations.

But it was not KNOWN or proven until just recently that this technique does work, why it works and how it works! Brain-science research now has verified that indeed this process does work!

Yur brain and neuron patterns are constantly changing and forming new connections in a process known as brain plasticity! (We described this process in a previous Newsletter (See First Issue of Newsletter)

 [Note: One wonderful attribute of this process is that we now know that you can still effectively learn new tasks and new information; from childhood right on up through the REST of your LIVING YEARS! Your age is NOT a limiting factor on learning new things!]

We call this technique: INNERSTATES! These are statements that you make to yourself in a certain way and using a certain form and format that, if done properly, will form many new synaptic connections and neuron patterns and neurodes that will become your Super neuRODES for Success!

INNERSTATES!

1. Determine what it is that you want! What is your goal? What level of Success and in what field or area do you want it!

In doing this you must be VERY SPECIFIC! The more specific you are, the more helpful your RAS can be in sending exactly the right messages and visions to your top floor! (Conscious level)

Do not just say you want a new house, if that is your goal! You should write down exactly what type of house; what color; how many stories; how many rooms; how many windows; what type of roof; do you see one or two chimneys? BE VERY SPECIFIC!

2. Place this goal in WRITTEN FORM! If your goal is to create many more synaptic connections in your nonconscious neurons and neurodes (group of neuron patterns indicating one idea, memory or thought), the more of your senses that are involved, the greater will be the number and strength of these connections. [Note: Written form can be a photo or picture, IF IT is specific!]

3. This must be in the PRESENT TENSE, as if you already have it! For your RAS to send messages to your top floor about what is important to you NOW, your Innerstate must be about NOW, not tomorrow, or what WILL be important to you, because that synaptic picture never comes!

4. CAUTION!! This also must be written in the form of what I call a POSITIVE POSITIVE! The research has shown that we ‘see’ at our non-conscious neuron level in pictures. Further, our nonconscious neurons do not have the reality, rational thinking, reasoning filters that are present with our conscious neurons.(thoughts) [Note: That’s one reason why our nonconscious neuron impulses travel at speeds up to 800 times faster than our conscious neuron impulses.]

And since these pictures are filterless, we are not able at the nonconscious level to see the deductively reasoned picture that we ‘see’ at the conscious level. For example, if we tell our child, “Whatever you do, don’t spill the milk!” The image seen in the nonconscious levels of our child’s brain (5/6th of their brainpower), is that of SPILLING THE MILK. So you’ve got a 5 out of 6 chance that they will indeed spill the milk when you tell them not to!

Therefore, DO NOT create a written Innerstate that is what you DON’T want!

Do not write it in the form of a negative positive, such as “I will not overeat ever again!” THIS IS A VERY BAD INNERSTATE! Not only are you creating many neuron connections in your brain showing you a picture of you overeating, but this also is not in the present tense! A much better Innerstate would be, “I am thin!” or “I eat very good, well balanced meals!” or “I am in great physical shape!” or “I look terrific in a Size 6 dress!”

5. Once you have created a very good Innerstate, you should write it on at least two or three, or more index cards: One for your ‘fridge, one for your car, and one for your bathroom mirror. Each day then for AT LEAST 30 STRAIGHT DAYS, (research has varied on how long this process takes depending on how you use these cards, for how long, how many times per day, how emotional you are when doing your Innerstates, etc. Our recommendation is at least 30 days)

SAY THESE INNERSTATES OUT LOUD, IN FRONT OF A MIRROR, AT LEAST 3 TIMES PER DAY!

What you are doing then, is creating many new synaptic connections that clearly indicate to your RAS that this is important to you! And from then on, with some maintenance efforts that we will talk about in a future Newsletter, your RAS will send to your conscious-cortex-Top Floor, any and all images that it sees, hears, smells , or touches that will help you become, or get to your Innerstate Success Goal(s)! PERMANENTLY!

All of these books will have been published in just the last few years, since about 95% of what science now knows about the brain has been discovered in just the last 4-5 years! 1. 17 LIES THAT ARE HOLDING YOU BACK AND THE TRUTH THAT WILL SET YOU FREE, Steve Chandler, Renaissance Books 2000. When I first bought and started reading this book, after reading the book cover notes I was concerned that it may be just another cliché filled hollow shell. I was wrong! In fact even the publisher’s editor who wrote the promotional cover notes got it wrong!! Once you have read and understand some of the current fundamentals of the workings of the human brain, this book becomes very, very good! Nearly all of the “17 Lies” can be traced to improper self-limiting habits and negative self-talk that create detours, back roads, and bumps in our brain neuron patterns. Chandler has written several other books, including “100 WAYS TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF”.(Also included in our Bibliography) Here, IN "17 LIES", he does an excellent job detailing how nearly all of these lies that are holding each of us back, can be resolved by methods for changing how our brain thinks! For example, Lie Number Nine is: “The longer you have a habit the harder it is to break!” To the brain, perception IS reality, and therefore if you confirm a new perception, by gentle repetition, after a while the new habit will set into your neuron patterns and begin confirming itself, without any effort from you! Changing is easy! Maintenance is what’s important! Great stuff! RATING: 8.5

2. CROSS-TRAIN YOUR BRAIN, Stephen D. Eiffert, AMA Publications, 1999.
Great stuff here, as well! This book emphasizes a couple of my strongly held beliefs about Success, Science, the Brain and Achievement. First, to reach the highest levels of success, you must have an optimistic belief that there is more to brain development than just receiving information. Permanent Self-Motivation is much more complex than just learning how to use your computer! You cannot train your brain, until you understand HOW it functions. You have to be aware of the way you think! Second, in Chapter 5, there is an excellent (and understandable) explanation of how your Limbic System and RAS send important messages to your conscious cerebral cortex. This is the very stuff we have talked about in this month’s NEWS! (See above.) There are many good mental exercises in the book that will take you years ahead of your competition too! These include steps to visualize your way to a change from negative evolution to a permanent positive perspective and the authors “Context Shifting” exercises on page 161-162, that we will be using in our Seminars! RATING: 8.9
