SELF-MOTIVATION SCIENCE NEWS!
In the last two “Possibilities” Newsletters we answered some of your pressing questions about the Science for Success research information and Techniques for permanent self-motivation. This time we are getting back to specific scientific research, information and foundations that can help you create permanent abilities for transcendent success.

          ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So far we have built up to the development of your Innerstates (Science for Success Technique #4), and how you need to practice them so that you can create permanent neuron connections in your brain.

Once you have developed the new neurode connections, your goals and dreams get placed on your “Important List” so that your nonconscious brain cells (NC or Nancy as I like to call it), will ALWAYS send to you, via your Reticular Activating System, a message to your conscious level whenever your brain sees anything related to you reaching your goals. When this happens, your likelihood of taking action on those thoughts are nearly 100%

In order for these new connections to form quickly and stay in position to be easily triggered to fire for you, there are some things you can do that will increase their longevity and effectiveness.

First, we need to go back to Science for Success Techniques #1 and #2. Since your brain sees in pictures, and since you cannot filter out the negative at the nonconscious level, you must be very sure to recognize any negative input that you allow to “talk” to your brain, so that you can “Stomp the ANTS” (Automatic Negative Thoughts) and turn them into positive thoughts before the neurode pattern is formed. THIS IS ESSENTIAL! You act on what you ‘see’, and if your Nancy ‘sees’ negatives, it will not send positives to your top floor when it sees them!.
 

Secondly, your goals must be very very focused, so that Nancy can easily determine what is listed on your Important List, and always be able to send anything related thereto up to the top floor of your brain.
 

Third, and this is the heart of this information, there are some things that you can do as you learn and repeat your Innerstates, that can make this process, quicker, stronger, and more likely to be permanent. You ‘learn’ by repetition, association, and emotion. So the more you repeat thoughts and statements of your Innerstates, the more connections you form and the stronger are the connections.

But you also can create better connections that are more likely to fire by associating your goal-Innerstates with other memories and ideas. In this way, even if you are not seeing or thinking of your primary goal, if one of your associative memories is active, it will also fire the “side street” neurode connections that are our dreams and Innerstates.

For example, if I asked you to name all of the state capitals within 2 minutes, this probably would be very hard for you to do. However if I gave you a list with the first letter of each city that was the capital of each state, you would do very well.

Why? Because the associative cross-memory would trigger the firing of the “side street” memory, and you would get many more state-capital cities correct, and quicker! So try to repeatedly relate to your goals nearly every daily experience that you have during your 30 day effort to speak your Innerstates. That way, you are forming cross-connections that when they fire, will lead you back to your goals! What a concept. It will become automatic!

Fourth, if you are in an emotional state when you practice your Innerstates, physiologically, you will be forming better connections. There are many ways you can enhance your emotional state just before and while you speak your Innerstates. One very simple technique is to say them out load and or in front of a mirror. If you see and hear yourself speak, the amygdala recognizes this as an emotional reaction and will cause the release of more neurotransmitters that will result in increased, stronger connections. There is something about seeing yourself speak, or hearing your own voice, that is very emotional. Especially if you are making a statement that your conscious brain does not yet believe. If your conscious neurons hear and see what is consciously believed to be a lie, you cannot help but have bodily reactions to that. (Ask the polygraph examiner!)

Next time we will talk about how you can artificially create an increased emotional state by “Triggering a Thunderstorm” (Science for Success Technique #5), so that your neurode patterns for success are permanent.

Each Newsletter we will review a few of the books and/or research articles and studies that we have read. BOOK REVIEWS

SELF-DISCIPLINE IN TEN DAYS, by Theodore Bryant
HUB Publishing 1999.

When I first got this book, I had envisioned it as an example of what not to read. I had anticipated it being cliché filled and syrupy! Oh boy was I wrong. The book has its foundation in the neurosciences, not the clichéd. It contains a very good explanation of why you must become consciously aware of your self-talk. It further does a great job explaining the evolutionary presence of overemphasized negativism, and that this is/was how the brain got programmed to function. How to overcome this is given in very focused detail.

The author lists the 5 deadly poisons: cynicism, negativism, defeatism, escapism, and delayism; and gives clear directions on how you must turn up the positive self-talk to overcome them by using positive, specific, and present tense Innerstates. This simple concept alone can change your life. Book also has a good section on the effects of visualization. Read. Read. Read. RATING: 9.0



USE IT OR LOSE IT! by Bragdon and Gamon
Brainwaves Books, 2000
If you are over 40, this book is for you (and me) The theory here is that if you are not dealing with pathological loss or clinical problems, you don’t have to abide by the myth that you will lose your memory and thinking power to learn as you get older. The use it or lose it theory is alive and well with this book. And even better, they back it up with neuroscience research results from the University of California (Berkley) that prove it.

The book contains some rather elementary tests to roughly determine the amount of memory loss or mental lapse that YOU may have. However, beyond these there are some very good aspects to this volume. Section III discusses common cognitive problems that are NOT Alzheimer’s related, and Section IV gives good ideas to reverse cognitive decline! Also, some of the mental exercises near the back of the book are excellent, and have proven effective in slowing down or reversing cognitive cobwebs! If you’re over 40: RATING: 7
